Bass Neck Repair: Clamping and Setup | Tips and Techniques

This bass neck was broken across the heal of the neck. The unusual thing about it was it was at about a 45% angle which made it somewhat difficult to clamp. When you clamp necks especially bass you do not want to fight gravity because that makes it difficult to get the crack lined up correctly. The following photo shows how I position the bass so that the bass is upright and the neck is balanced. That way all the clamps need to do is align the crack not hold up the weight of the neck, scroll and machine heads.

This break was unsual because it was at a 45 degree angle.
